On 8 April 2010, Ferrari announced official details of the 599 GTO (Gran Turismo Omologato), a road-legal version of the 599XX track car, which was limited to 599 units.
Ferrari has produced only two other models which used the GTO designation, the 1962 250 GTO and the 1984 288 GTO. However, unlike the previous GTOs, the 599 was not designed for homologation in any racing series.
Able to lap the Fiorano test circuit in 1 minute 24 seconds, one second faster than the Ferrari Enzo, the 599 GTO was the marque’s fastest ever road car at the time of its release. Ferrari claimed it could accelerate from 0-62 mph in under 3.3 seconds, and reach a top speed of 208 mph.
Its 6.0-litre ‘F140’ V12 produces 661 hp and 457 lb ft of torque, and drives the rear wheels through a six-speed automated manual ‘F1’ transmission with the multiple shift program from the 599XX. It also shares the 599XX’s exhaust system.
